      This 5-day, blended learning course will teach you everything you need to know to successfully manage medical emergencies in wilderness and remote settings. You will learn the following specialized problems:

      Extended Patient Management - Situations when many hours or days stand between the injured person and definitive hospital care.

      Extreme Environments - Heat, cold, altitude, and other environmental factors that pose a significant threat to the safety of patients.

      Limited Resources, Equipment, and Personnel - Learn to successfully improvise with available equipment to create tools such as splints or litters for the safe evacuation of patients.

      The best and most comprehensive course of its kind to offer relevant and realistic first-aid training for seasonal outdoor activities or short term wildernessendeavors and pursuits.Wilderness First Aid is a two-day introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills. It is targeted to the outdoor enthusiast on day trips or short adventures. The course is taught by professional instructors with significant patient care and backcountry experience.

    • Wilderness First Responder Re-certification

      3-Day Certification Course

      This Open Re-certification course is open to graduates of any wilderness-based first aid training course that was at least 64 hours long and completed within 3 years of the proposed recertification option. Successful graduates of this course will receive Wilderness Medical Associates’ Wilderness First Responder, Anaphylaxis, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR certifications. WMA WEMT graduates with a current EMT-B or Paramedic certificate may also recertify the wilderness portion of their WEMT with this course.

    • Shallow Water Lifeguarding (Blended)

      *Discounted Certification for Prospective University Recreation Center Lifeguard Staff

      Get certified to work at the Rec! Then, earn back a portion of your registration cost by working with us!
      The Lifeguarding course is designed to teach skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies in water up to 5 feet deep. An option to bridge to deep water lifeguarding will be offered at a later date. Participants must successfully pass a pre-course swim exam, skills check, and written exams with 80% or better score to obtain certification (valid for 2 years from the date of last scheduled class.)

      The blended learning format (online learning with instructor-led skill session) requires completion of 7 hours of online learning throughout the class. The instructor led sessions will total approximately 20 hours.

      Prerequisites

      • Be at least 15 years of age on the last scheduled day of class.
      • Successfully complete the online Introduction to the Lifeguarding Course prior to the pre-course skills session via the class roster and online content completion status report
      • 100 yard continuous swim
      • Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs
      • Complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds: swim 20 yards, dive to 4 foot depth, retrieve a 10 lb. brick, and swim it back to the starting point

    • Recertification: American Red Cross Lifeguarding

      The purpose of a review course is to give individuals the opportunity to review the course content within a formal course setting. The review course format optimizes a participant’s ability to successfully complete the knowledge and skills evaluations. Participants must successfully pass a pre-course swim exam, skills check, and written exams with 80% or better score to obtain certification (valid for 2 years from the date of last scheduled class.) The responsibility for preparing for the final written exam is shared by the instructor and the participant.

    • Water Safety Today

      This class is for foster and adoptive parents who already possess a current CPR/First Aid certification and is offered within the full Water Safety CPR/First Aid course. Participants will receive training in water safety only. This course is designed to teach participants how to recognize, prevent and respond to emergencies in, on or around the water.

    • Customized Certification Programming

      We offer customized certifications for various American Red Cross Safety classes to individuals and groups.

    • CPR/AED/FIRST AID for the Professional Rescuer (Blended)

      American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers program trains professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. Participants will learn proper use of a resuscitation mask, a bag-valve mask, AED as well has how to perform two-person CPR.

      The updated blended learning format (online learning with instructor-led skill session) formats requires a 3 hour online learning section which must be completed 2 days prior to the scheduled date of class. Classroom portion is a 2 hour review and hands on skill based session. Certification is valid for 2 years from date of class.

      The challenge course provides a skills test and test out option for those who have a current or recently expired (less than 30 days) certification. Upon successful completion of the review course, the participant receives a certificate that is valid for 2 years from date of completion of the review course Blended learning format (online learning with instructor-led skill session) formats requires a 3 hour online learning section which must be completed prior to the scheduled date of class. Classroom portion is a 1 hour, hands on skill based session. Certification is valid for 2 years from date of class.
