TS23 Emphasizes Diversity, Community
The Translational Science 2023 Conference was an enriching and enlightening experience that gave participants a renewed sense of possibility with our work. We are grateful to everyone who took part and lent their support to this year's conference!
Translational Science 2023 was an inspiring event that brought together people from varied backgrounds and experiences to share knowledge in meaningful ways. The keynote speaker, Dr. Roland Thorpe, emphasized the importance of community engagement for successful organizations, noting that it is not only a committee dedicated to a single project or initiative but an institutionalized community advisory board.
The 3 Minute Thesis Competition, mock study section, and speed networking events allowed attendees to gain insight from each other. There was also an emphasis on the importance of social responsibility in translational science and increasing diversity and inclusion efforts. Finally, I-Corps@NCATS and Michigan Fast Forward were highlighted for their excellent research resources.
The CCTS team is thrilled to have participated in this inspiring event and extends our gratitude to everyone who attended and contributed. We hope that it will serve as an inspiration for all of us in the translational science community!

Alan Tita, MD, PhD wins the Herb Pardes Award
Congratulations to Alan Tita, whose CHAP study was selected as the top and most impactful study at TS23 Clinical Research Forum, and earning the prestigious Herbert Pardes Clinical Research Excellence Award! Tita's work joins studies from NIH, University of Chicago, MGH, Hopkins, Yale, UC Davis, and Cleveland Clinic selected as the top 10 studies this year.
Tita was honored for his leadership in the CHAP (Chronic Hypertension and Pregnancy) study, the most comprehensive trial of chronic hypertension in pregnancy ever undertaken. The trial evaluated the effects of prescribing blood pressure medication to pregnant women with mild chronic hypertension. The study results showed this treatment improved pregnancy outcomes without compromising the baby’s growth and overall health, which has been a primary concern from physicians for years.
