Who should complete this course?

Does your work require the use of pyrophoric chemicals? If so, it is required to complete this training course every two years (or if regulations change). The ultimate goal of this training is advising the campus community on using, storing, and disposing of pyrophoric and water-reactive chemicals in a manner minimizing risks to personnel, facilities, and environment. A copy of the completed training certificate must be maintained in the laboratory files and presented to the proper authorities upon request.

Supervisors, Managers, and Principal investigators (PIs) are responsible for providing hands-on, day-to-day training for their staff. This training must be documented (names, dates, and training content) and kept on file for audits. Work with pyrophoric materials outside the regular working hours (8 am-5 pm) is forbidden by UAB’s Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) (this includes weekends and holidays).

Registration: If you are a UAB Campus Employee, go to the Campus Learning System to complete this training course. If you are an Academic Student, UAB Hospital, or UAB Medicine, follow these registration instructions.
