Thank you for your interest in the Pathology Residency Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Applicants are chosen for invitation for an interview based on review of their ERAS application. Multiple factors including test scores, medical school success, and additional activities are considered. Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule a convenient time to interview.

PGY-1 Applicant Requirements

  • Attainment of an M.D. degree
  • Eligibility for limited Alabama Medical License
  • Participation in the National Resident Matching Program, if applying prior to the match.

Prospective residents who meet the above requirements must submit the following

  • Completed application documenting undergraduate and medical training
  • Dean's letter
  • Certified medical school transcript
  • Three additional letters of reference from faculty members of the medical school attesting to personal qualifications and to scholastic and clinical capabilities

PGY-II, PGY-III, & PGY-IV Applicant Requirements

  • Attainment of an M.D.degree
  • Successful completion of an acceptable PGY- I year at a fully accredited institution
  • Eligibility for Alabama Medical License
  • Please note that applicants for PGY-II positions and above are not required to participate in the National Residency Match Program

Prospective residents who meet the above requirements must submit the following

  • Completed application materials
  • Dean's letter
  • Certified medical school transcript
  • A letter of recommendation from faculty member supervising the applicant's current year of clinical training or the last previous year of clinical training
