The UAB Concert Choir will release a new CD on Jan. 28, to help fund the choir’s trip to the eighth World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia, in July. The $10 CD is available at digital outlets including iTunes, Amazon and the Department of Music’s online store. The UAB Philosophy Department will lead public discussions on life's big questions. Assistant Professor Josh May will lead the discussion to be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Spencers Honors House. For each discussion, a member of the department will start things off with a 15-minute presentation of the topic to be followed by an open discussion. Direct questions to Kevin McCain, Ph.D.

It is not uncommon for prison inmates to claim that a spiritual experience has changed their nature and made them a better person. Kent Kerley, Ph.D., associate professor in the  Department of Justice Sciences, has heard these stories and examined religion-based programs to discover the effect they have on inmates who are still imprisoned. His findings will be published next month in his book, “Religious Faith in Correctional Contexts.”

Gary Warner, UAB's Director of Research in Computer Forensics, has been named by BankInfo Security as one of the Top 10 influencers in banking information security. Warner is regarded as an expert in phishing attacks and international cybersecurity fraud. Along with directing the UAB Computer Forensics Research Laboratory, Warner is co-founder and chief technologist for Malcovery Security.

James H. Rimmer, Ph.D., director of the Lakeshore Foundation/UAB Research Collaborative, received the award given annually by the Association of Academic Physiatrists to the lead author of the best paper published in the American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. “This is the first randomized controlled trial that demonstrated people with physical disabilities can make small, effective improvements in self-managing their health,” Rimmer said.

UAB has named Bill Clark as the Blazers' new head football coach, replacing Garrick McGee. Clark guided the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to a record-setting 11-4 2013 season in his first year as head coach. More information about the announcement is online.
