The UAB Sparkman Center for Global Health Case Competition is an educational opportunity that features teams of 4-6 students representing at least 3 different schools. Teams are given a case scenario featuring a real life global health problem and are tasked with providing strategic recommendations to move the case subject forward efficiently and effectively. Teams present their recommendations to a panel of judges who then score the teams and award cash prizes.

Since 2010 the Sparkman Center has hosted the case competition annually as a means of engaging students in the complex questions that global health work presents. From 2017-2019 we expanded to include a Statewide Global Health Case Competition, where mulitple universities brought teams to compete.

In the fall of 2019, we started partnering with the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy to co-host the UAB competitions. At each competition we enjoy exploring a new case topic and seeing how students respond to the unique challenges presented.
