Purpose:
The Sparkman Center for Global Health (SCGH) and the Dean’s Office of the School of Public Health (SOPH) will provide travel funding for eligible SOPH students who are travelling internationally and attending an extracurricular academic/professional conference, training activity, or internship/practicum related to Global Health. These travel awards provide support for international educational experiences that enrich UAB SOPH students.
The award may cover expenses related to transportation, lodging, poster printing, registration, and other international travel-related eligible expenses as specified by the travel regulations of the UAB Financial Affairs at https://www.uab.edu/financialaffairs/traveling
Eligibility Criteria:
UAB SOPH undergraduate (major only), graduate, and doctoral students in good academic standing who will be enrolled at the time of travel AND at the time of reimbursement are eligible for one UAB SOPH Global Health Foreign Travel Award of up to $3,000 each academic year and a maximum of two while enrolled at UAB.
Important notes on eligibility:
- Students can only receive one award from the Sparkman Center for Global Health at a time. This means students who have already received funding from SCGH for an internship, Moses Sinkala Travel Award, or for conference-specific travel should not apply for an SOPH Travel Award for the same project/opportunity.
- This award may be supplemented by travel awards offered by other offices or programs; however, other funding must be acknowledged on the Global Health Foreign Travel Award Application and total funding may not exceed total budget related to the travel.
- SOPH students enrolled in a faculty-led PUH travel course should indicate the course they are participating in on the form below to apply for a travel award from the Sparkman Center.
Application:
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. All travel must be submitted to and approved by Education Abroad.
