This historic 2017 football season will go down in the archives of UAB as one of the most memorable. From the initial game at Legion Field against Alabama A&M, to Bowl eligibility, to Coach Clark’s winning the Conference USA Coach of the Year Award, the UAB Athletics Department and the team have outpaced expectations with a banner year! The united spirit of students, staff and faculty bodies around the University in showing their school pride on campus and at Legion Field has been simply fantastic.
However, the season is not over and there are many fun activities planned for the days leading up to the Bahama Bowl.
- First, let’s wrap up this football season with a campus sweep of “Be Seen in Green” every day during the week of December 18th. The Staff Council’s “Be Seen in Green Street Team” will travel around campus on Thursday, Dec. 21, between 11-1 giving out UAB swag to reward anyone showing their team pride by wearing UAB green.
- Next, everyone is invited to attend a “Send Off” for the UAB Football team on December 18th at 9am outside of the Legacy Pavilion and UAB Football Operations Building. Come and show the team that you will be with them in spirit as they travel to the Bahamas Bowl for the win.
- Finally, UAB will be playing Ohio University on Friday, December 22nd at 11:30 CST on ESPN. Viewing of the game will be held at Iron City Grill and in the Hill Student Center Alumni Theater starting at 11:30am.
Ever faithful, ever loyal, to dear old UAB! Go Blazers!

We would like to thank everyone who participated in our Angel Tree. When our Angel Tree went live at Thanksgiving we had 38 children and 429 overall gift requests, with requests ranging from socks to iPods.
Within 3 weeks, everything was claimed! Although some items were either out of stock or difficult to fulfil without more information (there was a request for a swingset), all the children received a comparable number of gifts thanks to several monetary donations, and all pledges were fulfilled!
The gifts have been delivered to CASA for distribution to the children. They will be overjoyed.
You have been overwhelmingly generous, and we were all touched by the way groups and individuals participated. Thank you!

From baby dolls to bicycles to winter coats and underwear your gift can provide some much needed comfort and joy to these needy and deserving children during the holidays. Partner with your coworkers or family members to fulfill all of a child's wishes or to purchase one of bigger requests.

We're so excited about the turnout we had last week at the Staff Convocation event! It was an all-around enjoyable day networking with President Watts and colleagues while enjoying good food and great music. We will be sharing pictures soon.
At the event we introduced a format for staff to share innovative ideas and opportunities for improvement through a crowdsource site called SPARK. Posting your suggestions to this site allows staff across UAB to vote on topics that are most important to them. The suggestion(s) receiving the most votes will be brought forward to the appropriate UAB leadership for further discussion.
You can take a look at the ideas already posted, vote on those ideas, or share an idea from our homepage and clicking on the SPARK icon on the right, or directly from this link.
We look forward to hearing from you!
