Private Swim Lessons

We are NOT currently taking applications for Spring 2024. We will update when we are accepting new applicants!

UAB University Recreation makes water safety a priority in our community. UAB Private Swim School is designed to teach proper technique while providing an easy transition to lifelong swimming.

We will offer two varieties of private swim lessons. 1-on-1 will be private instruction and is designed to help swimmers become comfortable in a more private setting. Partner Swim (semi-private) is a more affordable option for 2-3 participants of the same skill level and age. We do not partner individuals together, you must bring your buddy with you when you sign up!

Participants new to the program will begin with an assessment of basic skills to determine their comfort and current swimming abilities to determine their customized lesson plan. Sessions are sold in packages of 4 and 8. These sessions are 30 minutes in length.

      1. Download the Enrollment Form

      2. Completely fill out and sign the Enrollment Form

      4. Wait for confirmation from University Recreation

      5. Once confirmation has been recieved, complete payment for your sessions by:
      - Calling Membership Services (205-934-8224)
      - Stopping by Membership Services

    Registration Details

    • For Partner Swim participants must bring their partners with them to register. University Recreation does not provide partner pairing.
    • Waitlists: If you are placed on waitlist, you will be contacted in chronological order in the event any times come available.

  • Refund & Transfer Policy

    Refund & Transfer Policy

    • Refunds are not issued for Rec Swim School.
    • Refunds are only granted in cases where there is a documented medical condition that precludes completion of the program. If a refund is warranted, it is pro-rated based upon the program start date.
    • Programs are transferable, for the full amount, within the same academic semester it is purchased and if there is space available.
    • Full refunds are only issued if UAB University Recreation cancels a program, class, or activity.
