The CCTS Clinical Trials Administrative Office (CTAO) aims to bring innovative therapies to patients through the development and continual enhancement of operational excellence in the management of clinical trials. We seek to support investigative teams throughout the clinical trial lifecycle.

To achieve this, we set the following goals:
  • To enhance the efficiency, tracking, and management of clinical research activities.
  • To serve as liaison between institutional research administration and clinical trial site personnel.
  • To adequately support investigators and their research staff in clinical trial management and compliant research billing practices.
  • To effectively communicate acceptable research activity designation billed within appropriate billing guidelines.

OnCore Rollout and Training Support

The CTAO is the oversight office charged with the enterprise-wide rollout and operation of OnCore, a clinical trials management system (CTMS) that is replacing the current system, SiteMinder, and which promises to transform clinical trial processes at the HUB and beyond.

OnCore offers many advantages over SiteMinder, including centralized protocol tracking from start-up to closeout, streamlined patient and billing processes, regulatory compliance support, and transmission of study and patient data to UAB’s electronic medical record. Further, the integration of OnCore and PowerTrials offers improved capabilities in electronic ordering of clinical services as well as new recruitment and patient safety features.

A library of training documents for ends users is available on the OnCore site

Three divisions within the Department of Medicine went live in OnCore in December 2017 (Cardiology, Endocrinology, and Infectious Diseases comprised Wave 1a). Wave 1b go-live is scheduled for January 2018, while Waves 2 and 3 are scheduled for April and September 2018, respectively. The masterful launch of OnCore is the result of superb team work including months of painstaking effort migrating and validating study data, training super users, and supporting end users with a call center (for a complete list of the OnCore SuperUsers and Support Team, see “CCTS Thanks Its OnCore Support Team and SuperUsers”).
