Deputy Chief Amy SchreinerDeputy Chief Amy C. Schreiner

Deputy Chief Amy C. Schreiner is responsible for the supervision and daily operations of the Patrol, Office of Professional Standards and Lieutenant of Housing and Special Operations divisions. She also oversees the function of the Accreditation, Communication, Compliance, Crime Prevention and Training units.

Schreiner has over 20 years of law enforcement experience. She has been with the UAB Police & Public Safety Department since 2010. During her time at UABPD, she has served as a Captain in the Criminal Investigations and Office of Professional Standards division and she has supervised the Property and Records Unit, Clery Act Compliance, Training Unit and assists with Accreditation. 

Schreiner is a graduate of the 268th session of the FBI National Academy and the 88th session of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP). She is also a member of the University's Behavioral Threat Assessment Team and has served as an assessor for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) since 2016. 

Prior to working with the UAB Police Department, she at the City of Auburn Police Department and the Auburn University Police Department. She received her bachelors degree in psychology from Auburn University and a masters degree in Public Administration from UAB. 


Washington Zandral 1Deputy Chief Zandral N. Washington

Deputy Chief Zandral N. Washington is responsible for the supervision and the daily operations of the Hospital (Police/Security) and Criminal Investigations divisions. She also oversees the functions of the Hospital Security Operations Center (SOC), Security Services for Hospital and Campus and the Property and Records Unit. 

Washington began her law enforcement career with the City of Birmingham and has been with the UAB Police & Public Safety Department since 1997.  She received her bachelors degree in criminal justice from UAB and she is currently pursuing a graduate degree in criminal justice. 

Deputy Chief Washington is a graduate of the 257th session of the FBI National Academy and the 89th session of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP). She is also a member of the University's Behavioral Threat Assessment Core Team.  She has been a Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Assessor since 2008, and she is a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) instructor and crime analyst.

Her first priorities are to develop stronger partnerships between the Police & Public Safety Department and the various campus constituencies. She believes this plays an important role in the growth and staff  development, by positively affecting perceptions of campus safety.
