Law Enforcement Accreditation logo
The UAB Police & Public Safety Department is a nationally recognized accredited agency under the auspices of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). CALEA was formed for two reasons: a) to develop a set of law enforcement standards, and b) to establish and administer an accreditation process through which law enforcement agencies could demonstrate voluntarily that they must meet professionally recognized criteria for excellence in management and service delivery.

The UAB Police & Public Safety Department is very proud of its personnel who are fully vested, committed and dedicated towards maintaining law enforcement excellence.  UAB Police was initially accredited in May 1995 and is one of the 70 university police departments with a CALEA award. In January 2009, UAB Police was awarded another accreditation under the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).

The UAB Police & Public Safety Department strives to promote and maintain a safe campus. Ensuring the safety of the community requires a well trained dedicated membership that is sensitive to the diverse needs of a university. We aspire to provide resources to prevent crime, to proactively develop community partnerships, and to provide services to the University that promote the ultimate goal of campus safety.
