Goin’ Green New Student Orientation is required for all new students (freshmen, transfer, or non-traditional), so you should plan for it early. Keep in mind that attending an earlier session will mean earlier registration, which means a better chance of getting the classes you want. The size of each session is limited in order to allow your advisor and other campus reps to work closely with you.

What you can expect at Orientation:

  • meet with faculty and academic advisors
  • register for classes
  • discuss academic expectations
  • discover resources designed to help you succeed
  • build a network of campus contacts
  • check out all the opportunities and organizations that can help you get involved on campus
  • meet other students – current and new – and start building new friendships
  • get your ONE Card and everything else that makes you one of us

Freshman Orientation Dates & Reservations

At present, UAB New Student Orientation dates for Traditional Freshmen have not been canceled and plans are to hold them on their designated dates. Please continue to check here for updates and announcements.

Summer/Fall

Reservations may be made for Summer and Fall semester orientations beginning in early October. Before making an orientation reservation, you must first:

  1. Set up a BlazerID and password.
  2. Pay the $200 Freshman Enrollment Deposit. The Freshman Enrollment Deposit covers the cost of Goin’ Green New Student Orientation (which includes one guest) and associated enrollment fees

After completing the above steps, you can make a reservation here for Goin' Green New Student Orientation. Not all dates will be available for all majors. You will see the dates available for your major when you make your orientation reservation. Each additional family member you would like to bring with you (beyond the first) will cost $20. Guests will attend Parent & Family Orientation which is run separately from the student’s orientation. When you reserve a spot at orientation, you may also choose to pay by credit card for any additional guests or for overnight accommodations.

Overnight accommodations are not provided as part of orientation, but limited on-campus accommodations can be reserved—on a first-come, first-served basis—for $40 per person per night. Students will share rooms with other students, and parents will be housed in their own rooms in a different part of the building. Siblings or guests must be at least 16 years of age in order to take advantage of the on-campus accommodations. If you prefer to stay off-campus, Birmingham has plenty of hotels close to campus that, in some cases, offer a UAB discounted rate.

Please note that all fees associated with orientation (including the Freshman Enrollment Deposit, guest fees, and housing fees) are nonrefundable.
