Congratulations on your admission to the University of Alabama at Birmingham!
Priority Enrollment Steps for Incoming 2021 Freshmen
Step 1. Activate BlazerID
When you become a Blazer, you become a Blazer for life. That will never change. Once you’re ready, track down your student number (in your admission letter and follow-up email), and then use it to activate your BlazerID.
Step 2. Pay the Freshman Enrollment Deposit
Pay your $200 Freshman Enrollment Deposit. The first $150 will cover your orientation fee, which pays for you and a parent or other adult to attend our New Student Orientation, as well as other enrollment fees. The remaining $50 goes into your student account balance to give you a head start.
Step 3. Reserve a Spot for Orientation
Blazer Beginnings is a required rite of passage for all new Blazers. During the 1.5-day event, you’ll register for classes, get your ONE Card (UAB ID), learn about support services, meet other new students, and do much more. Parents and guardians are invited to attend the concurrent Parent and Family Orientation.
Step 4. Apply for Housing
Another freshman requirement is that you spend your first academic year in an on-campus residence hall. Which means you’ll live in the heart of, well, everything. Freshman housing is a short walk from the Commons on the Green dining hall, Hill Student Center, campus libraries, and classroom buildings. Complete your housing application now.
This requirement applies to all first-time freshmen who graduated from high school in the same year as, or the year prior to, their first semester at UAB.
Apply for Financial Aid
All it takes is just one form. But you need to fill it out as soon as possible. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov. The application for the 2021-2022 academic year will ask for 2019 income data. Use Code 001052 to send your application to UAB.
Accept Scholarship Offer
Students who were offered a UAB merit-based academic scholarship should accept their offer as soon as possible.
The deadline to accept your scholarship offer is May 1.
Take the Math Placement Assessment
If you have not completed a college-level math course (excludes remedial math and Finite Math) with a grade of C or better, you must take the Math Placement Assessment. Students must take the test at least one week prior to their scheduled orientation session. Log in to BlazerNET and click “Math Placement Assessment.”
All entering freshmen must show proof of the following immunizations: MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), Tdap (tetanus and diphtheria), meningococcal, and varicella. Students are also required to be screened for tuberculosis. School of Nursing and School of Health Professions students may require additional immunizations.
Prior to receiving any new vaccinations, students should log in to the UAB Patient Portal to check their immunization requirements. Students who are Alabama residents might already have vaccinations on file from the Alabama State Registry. If you are an Alabama resident and have questions regarding your immunizations, please contact a Medical Clearance Associate via the Patient Portal.
Submit Proof of Insurance
All full-time students are required to provide proof of health insurance coverage. Students who do not have private coverage will automatically be enrolled in UAB’s Student Health Insurance Plan and the premium will be added to their student account unless a waiver is submitted indicating proof of personal insurance coverage.
Accept Honors College Offer
Students who received a UAB Honors College offer should accept it as soon as possible.
The deadline to accept your Honors College offer is May 1.
Apply for Additional UAB Scholarships
UAB is pleased to offer IB Scholarships, departmental scholarships, performance scholarships and more. Students interested in these scholarships should submit their scholarship application(s) in the Blazer Scholarship Management and Resource Tool (BSMART). Submitting the general application in BSMART submits student information to many departments on campus. Some scholarships may require a supplemental application in addition to the general application. Check BSMART for specific scholarship deadlines.
