Who is required to take this course?
Do you work in a biological research laboratory? If so, this course is strongly recommended for a one-time completion; however, if there are significant changes in regulations, training is required to be completed again. This course will provide information on performing a detailed biological risk assessment, defining biosafety levels, and implementation of biological containment. A copy of the completed training certificate must be maintained in the laboratory files and presented to the proper authorities upon request.Registration: If you are a UAB Campus Employee, go to the Campus Learning System to complete this training course. If you are an Academic Student, UAB Hospital, or UAB Medicine, follow these registration instructions.

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:
- Perform a detailed Biological Risk Assessment, based on agent and procedure-specific properties.
- Define the different Biosafety Levels, list the minimum controls required, and describe the type of agents appropriate for each level.
- Implement the principles of biological containment.
