Through the federal work-study program, you can earn money to pay for college while gaining valuable work experience for your future.

  • Work-study is available for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Pay: At least minimum wage, but possibly more depending on the job and your experience
  • Average schedule: 15 hours per week
  • Examples of jobs may include administrative assistant, computer operator, faculty assistant, library aide, or tutor.
  • Apply by completing the FAFSA. If you’re eligible for work-study, choose from the list of available jobs on Handshake, the online career management site of UAB Career Center.
  • If you wish to be added to the waitlist for the federal work-study program you can do so by clicking on the My Financial Aid tab on the Student Profile page of your BlazerNET account. Once on your My Financial Aid page, click the Financial Aid Change Request tab on the green ribbon at the top. Check the third box from the top that states, “Please place my name on the waiting list for the Federal Work Study Program.” Then submit the form.
