The UAB Collat School of Business is proud to honor our dynamic alumni with the following awards: Honorary Alumnus/Alumna Award, G.O.L.D. (Graduates of the Last Decade) Alumni Award, Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award, and the Spirit of Collat - The Charles Collat, Sr. “Do Good, Be Better” Award. All nominees will be evaluated in terms of their impact in business, the relevance of their achievements, and their contributions in furthering the shared values of our School. All nominees, excluding those for the Honorary Alumnus/Alumna Award, must hold either an undergraduate and/or graduate degree from the UAB Collat School of Business. Self-nominations are acceptable and encouraged.
The nomination period opens in January and closes at the end of March. Award winners will be announced shortly thereafter.
Please note:
- The Honorary Alumnus/Alumna Award, Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award, and Spirit of Collat Award can only be awarded once per individual.
- Recipients of the G.O.L.D Alumni Award are eligible to receive the Outstanding Alumni Award or Spirit of Collat Award in the future.
- Awards are not necessarily given every year.
- Individuals can be nominated in multiple award categories in the same year but can only receive a single award per year.
- Nominators are strongly encouraged to answer all questions thoroughly and provide as much detail as possible. If needed, reach out directly to the nominee to ensure information accuracy and for specific examples that may strengthen your overall nomination.
- No current member of the Alumni Advisory Board is eligible as a nominee for a UAB Collat School of Business Alumni Award during their term(s) of service or within the same calendar year as the commencement or conclusion of their service term(s).
- The Awards Sub-Committee of the Alumni Advisory Board oversees recipient selection for all UAB Collat School of Business awards.

Honorary Alumnus/Alumna Award – up to one given per year
Criteria:
- Lifelong Devotion: The nominee should demonstrate a lifelong commitment and loyalty to the UAB Collat School of Business. This might be shown through consistent participation in Collat events, donations, or other forms of support.
- Ambassadorship: The nominee should act as an ambassador for the UAB Collat School of Business, promoting its mission and values within the community and beyond.
- Distinguished Service: The nominee should have rendered distinguished service to the UAB Collat School of Business, its programs, and/or its students or graduates. This could include, but is not limited to volunteer work, mentorship, or significant contributions to Collat specific projects.
- Commitment to Excellence: The nominee should have a commitment to excellence in their professional and personal lives.
- Non-Alumni Status: The nominee should not have attended or received a degree from the UAB Collat School of Business (formally known as UAB School of Business).

G.O.L.D. (Graduate of the Last Decade) Alumni Award – up to one will be given a year
Criteria:
- Professional Achievement: The nominee should have demonstrated significant early career success and innovation in their field.
- Leadership: The nominee should exhibit strong leadership abilities and potential for future growth.
- Service to Collat/UAB: The nominee should have a demonstrated commitment to the UAB Collat School of Business through participation in events, mentorship, or other forms of support.
- Community Impact: The nominee should have made a positive impact on their community or society at large.
- Alumni Status: The nominee should have graduated from the UAB Collat School of Business within last 10 years.

Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award – up to one may be given per year
Criteria:
- Professional Achievement: The nominee should have demonstrated significant success and leadership in their chosen field.
- Service to Collat/UAB: The nominee should have shown a strong commitment to supporting the Collat School of Business/UAB through various means, such as volunteering, mentoring, or participating in university events.
- Community Impact: The nominee should have made notable contributions to their community, demonstrating a commitment to service and positive change.
- Recognition by Peers: The nominee should be recognized by their peers for their personal and/or professional achievements and contributions.
- Alumni Status: The nominee should have graduated from the UAB Collat School of Business more than 10 years ago (formally known as UAB School of Business).

Spirit of Collat - The Charles Collat, Sr. “Do Good, Be Better” Award – up to one given per year
Charles Collat’s key values are:

Criteria:
- (Leadership/Community Service) Servant Leadership: The nominee should have led or participated in initiatives that had a lasting positive impact on the community.
- (Commitment to Education/Philanthropy) Alumni Engagement: The nominee should have an active involvement in supporting Collat/UAB programs, events, committees, or boards, demonstrating a strong commitment to Collat/UAB.
- (Ethics and Integrity) Ethical Standards: The nominee should have exemplary ethical behavior and integrity in both their personal and professional lives, embodying the values that Charles Collat, Sr. upholds. Collat’s personal philosophy of “Do Good, Be Better” reflects his commitment to ethical behavior and continuous self-improvement.
- (Family Values) Role Model: The nominee should serve as a role model for others through their actions and contributions.
- Alumni Status: The nominee should have graduated from the UAB Collat School of Business (formally known as UAB School of Business).
