Video Transcript[00:00] My name is Holly Giang and I'm an accounting student at the Collat School of Business. So after my first accounting course, I realized pretty quickly that I was really good at it. And I saw that there were a lot of career opportunities in the accounting field. And I've always really loved numbers and math has always made sense for me so it was a really good fit.
[00:17] My experience at UAB has been really great with the accounting program. Especially with the professors, when you have a really large school like UAB, to have a professor that knows your name. And is able to meet with you one-on-one and help you on things you don't understand in accounting has been a really great thing.
[00:31] Beta Alpha Psi has had a huge impact on my time as an accounting major. It's an honor organization not only for accounting, but there are finance and information systems majors. So I'm able to connect with a lot of different majors and learn a lot of different career options.
[00:45] I got my internship at PwC through Beta Alpha Psi. Our faculty advisor, he has really great relationships with a lot of different employers, including the big four accounting firms. And he was one of the main reasons I was able to recruit with PwC. I learned a lot at my internship, it was a really hands-on experience, I gained a lot of exposure to what it's like to work in auditing.
[01:04] And I got to apply a lot of what I learned in class to my internship. All the support from our local business communities and alumni provide us with so many networking opportunities and scholarships. Which really benefit us, because having these opportunities is so important for us to start our careers, and be successful.
[01:21] One of the awesome things about Beta Alpha Psi is that we host our own accounting career fair, called Meet the Firms. Where about 20 and 25-ish accounting firms come and they network with accounting students. It was definitely an important step in recruiting and really helped me get my foot in the door.
[01:37] Having UAB located in the city is a really great advantage for students. Especially because employers can come to our student organization meetings and meet students and network with them. So when I was looking at colleges, I wasn't sure where I wanted to go. I went to a lot of different campus tours, and when I went on the tour, I just really fell in love with the campus.
[01:57] I could tell that the business school really wanted to have each student have a unique experience. Ever since I chose UAB, I feel like it's everything I thought it was going to be. My ultimate goal after I leave UAB is to be a CPA and work in auditing. My internship really helped me see that I wanted to work at a big four accounting firm. And I'm really excited to start at PwC and see where my career goes from here.
