Environmental Health & Safety is excited to implement the new EHS Assistant (EHSA) system. To ensure it is a sustainable and useful tool, we are rolling it out in phases. During your phase, you will be contacted by EHS to attend an orientation and to receive access to the system. You will not be able to access the system before you attend the orientation. If you have questions, please contact EHS at EHSASupport@uab.edu.

In order to request a hazardous waste (hazardous, radioactive, universal, etc.) pickup, you must first have a valid User Waste ID (Hazardous Waste Request Profile). You will need to edit your User Waste ID (Hazardous Waste Request Profile) to include additional PIs if you do not see them in the drop-down list.

  1. On the EHSA Home Screen: Select “Waste Pickup Request”

  2. Next: Click on “Add a Waste Request”. If you do not have a valid hazardous waste profile, a pop-up will indicate “Missing Waste Request Profile”.

  3. Click on “Yes”
  4. The profile information should auto-populate. If it does not, click on the “Edit Profile”, and then enter Waste User ID, First Name, Last Name, Phone #, and Email. Highlight “PI” and select "Edit" in the waste request information area.

  6. Select the appropriate Department, Building, and Lab/Room. Your choices will be restricted based on your PI selection. For those PIs who occupy multiple buildings and/or labs: select those you use most often and click “Yes” next to default. For any PI, you will be able to change locations, if necessary, on the “Add a waste request” screen. Select “Attach” to add to your profile.
  7. If you have another PI you work for, you can add them now, or later using “Edit profile” on the waste request screen.
  8. Scroll down – all the way to the bottom – and click “Save” again. This will take you back to the waste request screen with a valid hazardous waste profile.
