Alumna Mary de Chesnay earns national book award

Nursing Research Using EthnographyMary de Chesnay, PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC, FAAN, a 1982 graduate from the PhD program in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing, has published an award-winning book, "Nursing Research Using Ethnography: Qualitative Designs and Methods."

The book is designed to be a concise, how to guide to conducting qualitative ethnography research spearheads a new series, Qualitative Designs and Methods, for novice researchers and specialists alike focusing on state-of-the-art methodologies from a nursing perspective. Scholars of qualitative ethnography research review the philosophical basis for choosing ethnography as a research tool and describe in depth its key features and development level.

De Chesnay is a professor at Kennesaw State University School of Nursing, Kennesaw, Ga. She has received 13 research grants and has authored two AJN Book of the Year winning books: 'Sex Trafficking: A Clinical Guide for Nurses' (Springer Publishing) and the 'Caring for the Vulnerable: Perspectives in Nursing Theory, Practice and Research,' now in its third edition (with a fourth edition to be published in 2015). De Chesnay has published more than 21 journal articles in Qualitative Health Research, Journal of Nursing Management, International Journal of Medicine & Law, and others. A former dean and endowed chair, she reviews for a variety of professional journals. De Chesnay is a noted expert on qualitative research and a founding member and first vice president of the Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS).
