The Department of Accounting & Finance (ACFN) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham offers a premier education in accounting and finance. We have a diverse and vibrant study body to which we provide resources found at large universities including a Bloomberg Finance Lab and international study abroad classes. We are committed to providing a quality, practice-oriented educational experience that prepares graduates for professional careers in business, finance and accounting, or to pursue graduate studies.
We are proud to offer nationally ranked and accredited undergraduate and graduate programs. Accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) is the highest honor a business school or an accounting program can achieve and UAB has held this distinction over 30 years. UAB is among only 178 universities worldwide to achieve this seal of excellence in both business and accounting. In our accounting program, we offer both a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Accounting (MAc) degrees. These degrees can be earned in the classroom in day and evening classes. Alternatively, these accounting degrees can be earned completely online. Our dedicated and caring ACFN faculty are exceptional teacher scholars and teach in both degree programs; in the classroom and online. They excel not only as great teachers and mentors, but also as positive motivators. They have made and continue to make intellectual contributions to our disciplines and are extremely active in the professional business community.
Our diverse group of students continues to excel inside and outside of the classroom. The UAB Green & Gold Fund, UAB’s student-managed investment fund, has received international exposure by winning international collegiate portfolio competitions, held annually at the R.I.S.E (Redefining Investment Strategy Education) Forum, the largest student investment conference in the world. Josh Carpenter, 2010 UAB accounting major, was selected as a Rhodes Scholar for 2012. The job market in accounting and finance continues to remain strong and steady as our students have many opportunities for career placement. Abundant internship opportunities allow our students to jump-start their careers before graduation, often leading to full-time employment.
We continue to increase the scholarship amounts given each year. Last year, the accounting program awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to deserving students ranging from high school seniors, to current undergraduate and graduate students. Several of our students received national scholarships.
UAB accounting and finance programs at the undergraduate and graduate level have long been successful and we will continue to provide our students a premier education that prepares them for the real world both nationally and internationally. We are excited that you are interested in our programs. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments.
