Completely Online Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity Management is a completely online offering designed for working professionals. The certificate consists of five courses with a seven-week format.   Although intense, students only take one course at time, and over three semesters can complete the certificate requirements.

Curriculum

Our Information Systems Advisory Council, composed of IT executives from major corporations in our area, was instrumental in the development of the study embodied in this certificate and provide ongoing input to insure that we provide relevant and thorough preparation in each area of study.

The five courses in the certificate prepare students by covering security strategy and planning, policy development, risk and vulnerability assessment, and managing under uncertainty during security incidents. Overall, the certificate emphasizes the managerial aspects of cybersecurity, and how it fits within an organization’s operating and strategic goals.

Demand for Cybersecurity Management

Modern business is exposed to a wide variety of cybersecurity threats exacerbated by the business need to maintain an online presence.  Assessing these threats and developing plans to effectively deal with them is of paramount importance.  Developing effective cybersecurity plans requires business knowledge as well as knowledge of the cybersecurity threat environment. 

Professionals that have expertise in both these areas are in high demand.  In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 31% increase in demand for Information Security Analysts between 2019-29.  

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following admission criteria:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university or equivalent for international students (as evidenced by a credentialing evaluation from ECE or WES), with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students who have a cumulative GPA less than 3.0 may be eligible based on work experience.
  • A master’s degree from a regionally accredited university or equivalent for international students as evidenced by a credentialing evaluation from ECE or WES.
  • Current student in a UAB graduate program.
