Application Deadlines

*International applicants should apply at least 6 months in advance of the deadline to ensure processing of all Visa paperwork.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting from an institution accredited by AACSB, received within the five-year period immediately preceding the desired term of enrollment or a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum of B in all accounting courses. 
  • Applicants who do not have an undergraduate accounting degree from an accredited university in the United States will need to complete the Accounting Bridge Certificate requirements in order to have the accounting foundation needed for the program.
  • If you are a current UAB undergraduate accounting student, you may be able to transition into the UAB Mac program through our Accelerated Bachelor to Master of Accounting (ABM) program.
  • A minimum score of 500 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC, www.gmac.com) within the five-year period immediately preceding the desired term of enrollment. The GMAT is waived for UAB accounting graduates and other students who take all the foundation accounting courses at the undergraduate level at UAB and have a minimum GPA of 3.4.
  • The MAc program team may be contacted for possible GMAT waiver for applicants meeting one of the following: 

    • Applicant with undergraduate accounting degree from an AACSB accredited institution and achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher.
    • Applicant completing the UAB Accounting Bridge Certificate program.
    • Applicant with an advanced degree in business related field (e.g. MBA) from an AACSB accredited institution.
    • Applicant has a terminal degree in another discipline.
    • Applicant has a professional accounting certification (CPA or equivalent) which requires continuing professional education.
    • Applicant has significant (3-5 years) experience at the executive level.

  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended sent directly by the Registrar or responsible head of the institution to the UAB Graduate School, 1720 2nd Ave. S., LHL G03, Birmingham, AL 35294-0013.
  • GMAT score* sent directly from the testing agency.
  • Three professional references.

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

  • TOEFL minimum composite score of 80 with a minimum score of 20 for each section or ILETS minimum composite score of 6.5 with minimum of 6.0 in each section is required for those whose native language is not English.
  • A general credentialing evaluation from ECE or WES stating US degree equivalency of 4-year US Bachelor degree and GPA is required. 
  • Students must have knowledge of US GAAP. Students with accounting degrees from outside of the US should plan to enter the Accounting Bridge Certificate Program before applying to the MAc Program.

  • Time to degree completion is 5 years. Courses need to be revalidated after 5 years. 
  • Students planning to apply courses taken in this program toward meeting the requirements of CPA licensure are encouraged to contact the program for further information.
