Team members Emily Resha, Collete Crowder, Coltan Lang, Blossom Ruebens, Dhriti Rajput, and Katie Golden submitted original videos to the competition, which drew entries from 63 colleges and universities across the United States. Among the submissions, UAB student teams earned both First Place and Runner-Up honors.
"I am extremely proud of the students involved in the Student Center for the Public Trust and the energy and enthusiasm they bring to exploring ethics and leadership topics," said Maria Athienitis, faculty advisor for the UAB SCPT opens a new website.
Students were challenged to create videos that demonstrate the types of complex ethical dilemmas professionals may encounter in their careers. Resha, Crowder, and Lang earned First Place in the Commercial category (Viewers’ Choice) for their video "Hesitate." The same team also earned Runner-Up in the Short Film category (Judges’ Choice) for their video "Eve."
Throughout the semester, Collat students worked on strengthening important skills such as teamwork, ethical reasoning, communication, research, and professional confidence.
"What stands out most is their positivity and genuine commitment to building ethical and responsible workplaces and communities," Athienitis said. "Their work reflects very positively on the UAB Collat School of Business and gives hope for the future of business professionals."
The Ethics in Action competition provides undergraduate and graduate students with an opportunity to create short films and commercials that explore ethical dilemmas in the business world. Videos are evaluated based on originality, clarity, relevance, and critical thinking.
