The Collat School of Business’s Professional Education Office will offer a new course this summer specifically for professionals who want to enhance their skills in data communication and storytelling.

The new live-online course "The Art and Science of Data Visualization: A Hands-On Approach to Impactful Storytelling" is designed to empower early to mid-career professionals with the essential tools for conveying compelling narratives through data.

Taught by data visualization expert and UAB Collat School of Business alumna Alicja Foksinska Arnold, who also serves as a Tableau Academic Ambassador, this course is a unique blend of expertise and hands-on learning. Arnold brings her passion and wealth of experience to create a dynamic learning environment that fosters connection, growth, and inspiration.

In a world driven by digital transformation, the ability to harness data, present meaningful insights, and make informed decisions is paramount, said Collat Professional Education Director Cori Perdue.

“Our course spans seven weeks and offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes case studies, a practical project, and engaging discussions,” Perdue said. “These elements are crafted to connect learners with a vibrant professional community, providing a holistic learning experience.”

One of the course’s distinctive features is its emphasis on practical application. Participants not only expand their knowledge and refine their skills, but also gain networking opportunities. Additionally, for those seeking to validate their expertise, the course offers a pathway to the Tableau Desktop Specialist certification exam. Fully engaged learners will be well-prepared to register and sit for the certification, enhancing their professional credentials, Perdue said.

Starting on June 20, participants will meet live, online on Thursday evenings 6-8 pm. The format offers a flexible learning environment for busy schedules, Perdue said, and is consistently preferred by those taking professional education courses. The final session on August 15, however, will be an in-person presentation at the UAB Collat School of Business, providing a unique opportunity for participants to showcase their newly acquired skills in a real-world setting.

Registration for the course closes June 13.

Scholarships are available for interested participants, making the course accessible to all professionals seeking to upskill their careers. UAB and group discounts are also available.

Collat Professional Education is committed to partnering with organizations and individuals, elevating potential, and helping achieve desired results. Beyond the Art and Science of Data Visualization course, Collat ProEd offers a range of live-online career advancement courses covering topics such as project management, digital marketing, and more.
