UAB Collat School of Business students recently honored four professors with the third annual CSOB Teaching Excellence Awards. The teaching awards honor one professor in each academic department and in the graduate program and are voted on by Collat students.

Through the award, students recognize the professors they believe are most impactful in the classroom.

This year’s award recipients were honored at the May all-school meeting.

Congratulations to the following CSOB Teaching Excellence Award winners:

Maria Athienitis opens a new website

Accounting and Finance Department

Athienitis is an instructor in the Accounting and Finance Department. She teaches most sections of AC 300 & 310 (Financial Accounting I & II) and serves as faculty advisor to UAB's Student Center for Public Trust, an organization that promotes ethical leadership. She is a qualified CPA and a certified Chartered Accountant.

John Hansen, Ph.D. opens a new website

Marketing, Industrial Distribution & Economics Department

Dr. Hansen is a professor of marketing whose research examines issues related to salesperson and frontline employee performance in the business and consumer contexts. He joined the faculty in 2010 and teaches MK 330 (Professional Selling) and MK 423 (Trends in Professional Selling) and serves as Collat's marketing internship coordinator.

Diane Lawong, Ph.D. opens a new website

Management, Information Systems & Quantitative Methods Department

Dr. Lawong is an assistant professor of management. She joined the faculty in 2020 after earning her doctrate in business administration from Florida State University. Her recent research focuses on organizational politics and behavior. She teaches MG 414 (Talent Development), MG 425 (Managing Through Leadership), MG 631 (Management and Organizations) and MG 646 (Leadership Development).

Doug Ayers, Ph.D. opens a new website

Graduate School of Management

Dr. Ayers is an associate professor of marketing whose research focuses on startup businesses, consumer behavior, and healthcare. He is director of the UAB MBA program and teaches ENT 421 (Entrepreneurship Marketing & Sales), MBA 673 (Startup Planning and Pitching), and MBA 651 (Marketing Strategy).
