Interior stairs in the new building.

The new Collat School of Business building keeps garnering awards.

The school was honored at the 30th Annual ABC Excellence in Construction Awards program with two awards. The awards were presented to general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers to the construction industry "who exhibited excellence on specific construction projects."

Architectural firm Williams Blackstock won first place in the architect category for its building design.

Remmert & Company also won first place in the interiors category for the architectural millwork on school's signature three-story Grand Stairs.

"I have never seen a project like that staircase before, and likely will never see one again during my career," said J.C. Robertson, Remmert superintendent and eventual creator of the Grand Stair's balustrade and stringer trim.

The Grand Stairs is an eye-catching feature in the new building, but its turns, curves and changes in elevations required a lot of creativity from the millwork team.

"It was the project of a lifetime, and one that I am really proud of," Robertson said.
