U.S. News & World Report ranks UAB's graduate Management Information Systems program as one of the best online computer information technology programs in the country.
The Master of Science in Management Information Systems opens a new website program, which is offered through the Collat School of Business and only available online, was rated No. 18 in the 2020 edition of "Best Online Programs."
The program scored particularly well in the Engagement category, which accounts for 25% of the program's ranking. Collat's MIS program scored a 91 out of 100 for engagement, ranking 5th out of all online IT programs. Engagement measures opportunities for interaction, instructor accessibility and responsiveness, graduation and retention rates and class size.

As part of a commitment to continual improvement, Collat's MIS program relies on a strategic advisory council and an annual review of its curriculum to ensure students are prepared for the future of IT. Recently, the program revised its bridge program for working professionals seeking to transition to the technology field. The program introduces students whose undergraduate degrees are not in the IT field to the fundamentals of the IS profession and seamlessly integrates with the graduate program.
The graduate program also recently adopted new courses on the strategic implications of business intelligence and a dynamic course that highlights emerging trends and technologies that will disrupt business operations over the next several years. Both courses will be offered starting in 2020.
The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research and students. The graduate-level programs were assessed through the measurement of several ranking indicators, including student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, admissions selectivity, and peer reputation.
