Disposing of hazardous or regulated waste is covered under federal, state, and local mandates. Hazardous and regulated waste can't be emptied into regular trash cans, poured down sinks, or emptied into the sewer system. Doing so could harm the environment and cost UAB dollars that could be spent elsewhere. Please think before you put or pour hazardous or regulated waste in the wrong place.

Hazardous Materials Spill Procedures

Many things can go wrong during a spill. If you stay calm, use common sense, report the answers to the questions in the PDF file, and take the necessary defensive procedures we can reduce the effects of hazardous material spills.

Identification and Contact Information:

The type of spill determines who you should call. In the PDF "In Case of a Hazardous Spill", we have created a list of people and numbers to call according to the type of spill. We strongly recommend that you print it and keep it in the area in a highly visible place so that anyone can access it in case of an emergency.

Also included in the PDF file is a list of questions that you should be able to answer no matter who you call.

Remember, staying calm and following procedures can save lives and property.
