The UAB Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery has matched four new fellows into the Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship for 2024: Tyler Johnson, D.O., Taylor Norton, M.D., Alexis Scheuermann, M.D., and Sarah Weiner, M.D.

They ranged from ages 18 to 77 and previously faced injury due to falls, car and ATV crashes, and gun violence.

Two clinical assistant professors within the University of Alabama at Birmingham Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery who serve as active duty surgeons within the United States Air Force have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

At the UAB Department of Emergency Medicine resident graduation, Department of Surgery Resident Samantha Baker, M.D. and Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Professor Daniel Cox, M.D., were named the 2022 UAB Emergency Medicine Resident and Faculty Consultant, respectively.

Aaron Beckwith, M.D., and David Northern, M.D., FACS, two clinical assistant professors from the UAB Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, are leaving UAB and moving on to the next chapters in their careers.

Irshad Chaudry, Ph.D., professor emeritus with the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, recently became the first-ever recipient of the Shock Society’s Mentoring Award. The award, which was presented to Chaudry last week during the Shock Society’s virtual annual conference, was created to honor a society member who has had a demonstrated impact as a mentor to the next generation of scientists and clinician-scientists in the field of shock research.
