Application Publishing

Service Description

  • IT Client Services (ITCS) offers a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) of virtual machines using Citrix XenApp. VDI provides consistent, centrally-managed Windows computers which run on efficient, high-density server clusters rather than locally-configured hardware.
  • ITCS will publish applications from a central or pooled server group to allow concurrent use of various applications by various users from a central located web page and service
  • Service is ideal for publishing old out-dated software that requires specific versions of out-dated software. Example: Java

What is included

  • An evaluation of the software / application for use with Citrix Services must be first determined if possible.
  • Software: Microsoft Windows Server 2016 x64 Operating System. Additional Software is available upon request with some exceptions. Most UAB approved software is allowed. Graphic intensive is not recommended.
  • Base VM Specs: 8 V-CPU, 16 GB, 120 GB Hard Drive (Due to storage and resource limitation this is the max specs allowed at this time)
  • Additional USB devices: Customer can purchase additional Citrix approved external CD ROMS, scanners and printers. Existing devices that are not compatible must be replaced or removed from service.

Who can use this service

If the application is compatible, then mostly everyone should be able to use this service. Students, Faculty and other Administrative users all qualify.

Classroom/Kiosk/Lab Desktops

Service Description

  • IT Client Services (ITCS) offers a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) clients and virtual machines using Citrix XenDesktop. VDI provides consistent, centrally-managed Windows computers which run on efficient, high-density server clusters rather than locally-configured hardware.
  • Non-Persistent Virtual PC’s: VDI deployment includes a custom base image without user profile or machine retention. Great for labs and kiosks where user information can be deleted upon completion of task.

What is included

  • Current Hardware: HP T630 Thin Client Endpoint Terminals with mouse/keyboard and 24” display. Additional monitor is available at a current cost.
  • Software: Microsoft Windows 10 x64 Operating System with Microsoft Office. Additional Software is available upon request with some exceptions. Most UAB approved software is allowed. Graphic intensive is not recommended.
  • Base VM Specs: 4 V-CPU, 8 GB, 120 GB Hard Drive (Due to storage and resource limitation this is the max specs allowed at this time for User Desktops)

Who can use this service

Campus labs and shared-use stations such as Kiosks and Testing Areas. Public workstations for Library and other high traffic frequently used areas. Note: VDI solution does not allow local admin rights under any circumstances due to security and performance concerns.

Standard User Desktop

Not everyone is a candidate for a thin client, administrative computing may qualify. A tech consultation is recommended on-site prior to services rendered. Note: Citrix VDI solution does not allow local admin rights under any circumstances due to security and performance concerns.
