From mass email to apparel and beyond, UAB Medicine’s brand touchpoints are diverse and varied. Reference this section for general logo usage guidance, and keep in mind that the UAB monogram should only appear once in a particular layout or application.

Core-forward approach

In our brand applications, we use a core-forward approach, which means we lead with the UAB Medicine logo and only use lockups when necessary for the audience, design, or communication piece. Reference lockup guidelines for further direction on individual use cases.

  • Publications and Reports

    Publications such as magazines, annual reports, and strategic plans should use the core medicine logo and university wordmark on both the front and back cover. Unit names must be included in a secondary location. Additionally, named units may use the full donor name on print publications to establish a formal tone.

  • Patient Materials

    Publications such as magazines, annual reports, and strategic plans should use the core-forward approach and require two imprint locations. UAB Medicine is the primary imprint, and the unit, division, or service line name should be the secondary imprint. Lockups should not be used on patient print pieces.

  • Mass Emails

    The UAB Medicine core logo should always be prominently displayed in the header of mass email communications such as newsletters, messages, and event invitations. No additional logos or lockups should be added in mass emails or newsletters. The names of schools, departments, centers, and institutes should be written in text and/or included in the sender profile.

  • Step and Repeat Banners

    Step and repeat banners may only use the core medicine logo. It is important to represent the brand well in media interviews, ribbon-cuttings, and other high-profile events.

  • Event Setups

    Tablecloths and tents must use the core medicine logo. It is important to represent the brand well in media interviews, ribbon cuttings, and other high-profile events. Pop-up banners should use a core-forward approach, with an option to include the unit name in a secondary imprint.

  • Social Media

    Social media profile images for UAB Medicine social media accounts are created centrally and provided to account managers. Because of the minimum size requirements and text legibility, all social accounts should use a core UAB Medicine logo on a green or white background. If desired, your unit lockup may be placed in the social media header image. Otherwise, your unit name is listed as your official profile name and should be included in every post you publish.

  • Video

    Intro and Outro Card

    All promotional and event videos must feature an intro and outro card. These cards must feature a core UAB Medicine logo and may not include lockups. The card may be white with a full-color logo or solid UAB green with a white logo. If additional unit information is required (unit name, URL, etc.), use an additional title card to share the information before the final outro card.

    Title Cards

    Title cards appear after the opening bumper, and closing credits appear before the closing bumper. Titles, names, and dates should appear in Aktiv Grotesk SemiBold. All other descriptive information appears in Aktiv Grotesk Regular.

    The video bug uses the core medicine centered logo in the bottom righthand corner.

  • Email Signature

    Email signatures are a vital part of presenting the brand and supporting professionalism in communications, both inside and outside of our organization. The signature should be formatted using the Arial font no larger than 12pt. Neither the UAB Medicine logo nor other images should be included in the signature. Instead, uabmedicine.org or uab.edu/medicine should always appear under the contact information. Do not include personal quotes or phrases, images, or statements. Learn more about email signatures.

  • PowerPoint

    All faculty, staff, and students should use the official PowerPoint (PPT) template, which features the core medicine logo. By doing so, we collectively reinforce UAB Medicine's reputation and help ensure unified branding.

  • Virtual Backgrounds

    The core medicine logo should be used on virtual backgrounds. Virtual backgrounds for internal meetings are available for download.

  • Research Poster Presentations

    All faculty, staff, and students should use the official poster presentation template, which features the core medicine logo. By doing so, we collectively reinforce UAB Medicine’s reputation and help ensure unified branding. Download poster presentaion templates.

  • Stationery

    UAB Printing and Mailing Services produces all UAB Medicine stationery and business cards from approved templates. Using an outside vendor to reproduce UAB Medicine stationery is unauthorized and could result in trademark infringements and/or declined payment from Purchasing.
